Regulation Authority:

RIGL 40-6-8

Purpose and Reason:

Effective April 1, 2009, as a result of the American Recovery and Investment Act, SNAP household’s maximum benefit allotment will increase by 13.6 percent of the June 2008 Thrifty Food Plan. The minimum benefit will increase from $14.00 to $16.00. These higher benefit levels will remain in effect until the Supplemental Nutrition Program’s regular annual inflation adjustments overtake the benefit increase.

Brief statement of Reason for Finding Imminent Peril:

The emergency adoption of the rules is required to ensure that all SNAP households receive this increase in benefits in a timely manner.
